Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover is a combined procedure — typically tummy tuck, breast work (lift, augmentation, or both), and often liposuction — designed to restore the body after pregnancy and breastfeeding. The name is marketing; the operation itself is serious plastic surgery that addresses specific changes pregnancy and childbirth leave behind.

The advantage of combining procedures in a single operation is one anaesthetic, one recovery, and one travel trip instead of two or three.

Who is a good candidate?

• Completed childbearing (future pregnancy will undo the abdominal repair).
• Stable weight, ideally within fifteen per cent of pre-pregnancy baseline.
• Finished breastfeeding for at least six months.
• Good general health, non-smoking at time of surgery.
• Realistic about the recovery — combined procedures mean combined healing time.

What's typically included

Abdominoplasty

Repairs the separated rectus muscles (diastasis recti) and removes loose abdominal skin. This is usually the centrepiece of the operation.

Breast lift, augmentation, or both

Addresses post-breastfeeding breast ptosis and volume loss. The specific operation depends on what's presenting.

Liposuction

Adds contouring to the flanks, upper abdomen, and back. Frequently performed as lipo 360 in the same session.

Optional additions

BBL (if fat transfer is appropriate), facelift for older patients, arm or thigh lifts if significant laxity is present.

The procedure, step by step

General anaesthesia, four to six hours depending on components. Two nights in hospital is typical. Every component is performed to the same standard as it would be alone — nothing is shortcut because of the combination.

Recovery timeline

First 2 weeks

The most demanding part of the recovery. Slight forward posture protects the abdominal muscle repair. Compression continuously. Realistic help at home is essential.

Weeks 2–6

Progressive return to activity. Most patients are back to light office work by week two to three. Childcare assistance is realistic for the first four to six weeks — no lifting children under five kilograms, no strenuous activity.

Months 3–12

Final shape. Scars maturing.

Risks and realistic expectations

Combining procedures increases the absolute per-session complication risk compared to any single operation. This is honest trade-off territory: you save time, money, and recovery overall — but the single session is more demanding. Your surgeon will tell you honestly whether your case is better served by staging versus combining.
